Dysport™

Dysport™ is a botulinum toxin in the same class as Botox®, and is a purified protein that relaxes & smoothes the muscles by blocking nerve impulses. Dysport™ is FDA-approved for use in the USA, and has been used in other countries for 20 years.

Dysport™ differs from Botox® in two noticeable ways: Dysport™ only takes 24-48 hours to take effect instead of 3-5 days with Botox®, and Dysport™ spreads al little more from the injection site.

In our office, I suggest that every client tries both Dysport™ and Botox® to decide which one they prefer. They are priced the same, so you can choose based on your preference.

Who is a candidate?

Dysport™ is FDA-approved for the relaxation of the frown lines between the brows; the same as Botox®. However, just like Botox® , Dysport™ is used ( off-label) all over the face, most commonly: to relax the forehead lines, crow’s feet (squint lines), soften the lipstick lines of the lips, elevate the corners of the mouth, and decrease the banding of the muscles of the neck, as well as to weaken the muscles that cause clenching and grinding of the teeth. Dysport™ can even work to decrease the sweating in the armpit area.

Procedure Description:

Dysport™ is delivered with a tiny needle and just drops of the solution are needed to give you the desired result. There might be a slight sting to the area as the Dysport™ is given. Although bruising is not common, I suggest that you not take aspirin, anti-inflammatories or fish oils for a week prior to the injection for the best results.
You can return to your usual activities immediately after your treatment, and can expect to see your result within 24-48 hours.
Some people have reported that the relaxation effect can begin as early as overnight.
Dysport™ has a similar duration as Botox® in clinical studies, which is usually 3-4 months. How long the effect lasts is also determined by the number of units (amount of the product) used for your treatment.
Because Dysport™ spreads around the injection site more than BotoxR, some people prefer the smoothness and soft-look of Dysport™.
